Well done! Your basking area is splendid. If there is gravel at the bottom of the tank I was suggest removing to avoid impaction. Bare bottom, river stones or aquarium sand works.

Thank you I have larger gravel in the tank. I rinsed it in colander with larger holes and kept agitating and stirring the gravel until all the stones that are smaller than his mouth fell through. I have not seen him try to eat them ever although it does make it harder to keep the tank clean. I am really considering river sand but was wondering how to clean it? I am almost ready to start putting together my next tank which is a 55 gallon. I plan to use the same basking area with that tank and am looking forward to more filtration once I figure out which of the many filters I want to invest in. I can't wait to see helmet in the larger tank I was thinking about buying some fish to be tank mates with him but have not done much research on fish yet as there are so many other things I am trying to get up to speed on. Whelp, we already spoke about gender, and as for the sand I'm afraid I do not have experience with it. I use large river stones. Please be quick to remove the gravel as Helmet grows, just to be on the safe side. And there is a very high chance Helmet will eat any fish friends you put in with him/her lol.
