Unless these are juveniles (which will probably want to spend all their time on land) you could probably easily increase the water 2-3 inches(if not more). They will probably prefer it too .
The more water you have the more control you have over its quality (it takes longer for things to change).
I'm not sure how old they are, but one of them likes to climb out from time to time whereas the other, well I've only seen him out of the water once! I just worry that if I put too much water in the wont be able to climb out so I tried to leave bits of rock poking out... However I did discover the other night just how good these guys are at climbing, one of them was right near the top clinging onto the glass! Goodness knows how he got there the little bugger
So, if I was to add water and move my floating piece further up the glass you think this would be ok for them?
What's your floating piece? does it have a hide on it?
As long as they have plenty of things to haul themselves out with, they should be fine. Make sure you have something around the edge to climb out on, if they panic, they will normally swim around the edge head-butting things (so they can bump into something they can climb out with).
The floating piece is just an artificial piece of wood with suckers on to attatch it to the glass, i think they like sitting up there, that's where I usually find Timmy.
I topped the wather up last night and I think they panicked a little at first, jumping up and trying to poke their heads out of the water but this morning I found them both climbing on the plants. Timmy is out of the water doing his usual "King of the floaty thing" thing and Rocco is swimming and walking around happily so thanks for that
Oh one more thing, do you think Rocco (pictured) is a male or female? I just refer to them all as boys but am quite aware that I've probably got 2 of one sex and 1 of the other.
