thanks i have only just got the tank in the pic it is about a 40 G just a couple of weeks ago and does anyone have any tips on how to sex him/her because i would like to get the opposite sex soon and try and breed them so any tips ? like what to look for ect.

You'd need a clear shot of the tail end to sex your axolotl..and that would also depend somewhat on its age , having said that the males tend to make it very obvious as to what sex they are as the spot under the tale is more rounded.
With regards to getting the opposite sex ( I'm going to be the kill joy here) I personally wouldn't. I was given my two by a lady leaving the country and my golden one was un sexed. A month or two back she matured which was fine, but we went on holidays and returned to a tank FULL of eggs. As a novelty this was fine as I aimed to keep just the 20 or so, which then somehow creapt to 40+ ( I gave the others away ) .Only a month or so later , dispite having been seperated , the divider was pushed/knocked over and they were reunited , later that day she started laying and laying and laying. It is a real nuicance trying to get the eggs out as they are sticky and slimy and are every where!!. There is a potential that the female will lay more than one- 2 clutches a year, and this may not be to healthy for her. I am currently raising 25 eggs ( there were a few accidents on the way) which will soon need to be seperated . You also need to think ahead of all this as to what you aim to do with them once they are bigger. I am lucky in that a local aquarium shop has offered to take most of my batch on once they are onto blood worm. Now if you want to dabble with raising eggs there are occasional posts in the for sale/ give away section that you can get them ( I have some at present that I am about to send to a gentle man from here).

lol thanks bellabelloo and i was hoping they would breed thats if and when i get a new axie and i have already found 7 people to accept a couple of axies each and i only plan on raising around 20 eggs but what should i look for in the shop when i am looking for a new axie in terms of sex or is it about luck

Now thats a tricky one, the ideal place to get another axolotl is through someone here in the for sale section,or the wanted section, that way you would hopefully no your axolotl's history. Alternatevly if you see some in a pet shop, check their set up. If the axolotl look well and healthy , i.e have gills with feathers and not pointing forward, all their limbs there and the shop tank is not over crowded or mixed up with other animals .Also try to get a similar size to your current axolotl, this will stop one being bullied more or even chewed ( or worse!) I would visit them a few times to check them out and that they are still looking good. If thats the case that alls well then select your animal. Bare in mind however that you will need to quarintine any new axolotl that you purchase. This is to make sure that it stays healthy and does not infect your current axolotl , there have been posts on this forum telling of the heartache that has been caused by not quarintineing ( wish I could spell!!) .
