Legal Summary of Caudata.org US Survey for 2016 USFWS Salamander Ban 1.0

No permission to download
Resources relevant to legal issues,.
The attached PDF document summarizes the results of the Caudata.org member survey carried out in early 2016 in order to present data during the comment period for the USFWS's salamander import and interstate* travel bans that came into effect in March 2016. Please feel free to quote this document in correspondence with government agents or elected officials, but you must cite the document (Caudata.org 2016 Member Survey Summary for USFWS Bsal Rule FWS-HQ-FAC-2015). Please feel free to include the link to this resource.

* Reminder: The interstate transport ban was invalidated in 2017 as a misapplication of the Lacey Act. At the time of posting this resource (March 2021), there is a bill in the Environment and Public Works committee of the US Senate that, if passed into law, will grant USFWS broad discretionary powers to properly impose this travel ban and perhaps other similar rules.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
