Does anyone have a water level recommendations for a Cynops orientalis? Mine is currently about 4 1/2 inches but i want to raise it so that the newts aren't always on land. I have a huge piece of driftwood which already sticks out of the water about 4 inches so if i do raise the water there will be some land for them to rest on.
thanks,
I have seen them in fully aquatic tanks but mine is at about 6 inches...Dont make the bottom Even Though have rocks and caves so It has a varied Depth.
i have lots of gravel on the bottom (about 3 inches of it) so there are a lot of dips plus i have lots of rocks and caves, do they really need a place to rest above water?
I keep mine in 11 inches of water and have a floating cork bark island which they rarely use. You should provide them with a land area but in my experience it does not have to be extensive.
