4 months ago I had gotten two beautiful baby (2 month old) leusistic axolotls and they both seemed to be happy and healthy up until their deaths. The first one started floating a lot and I just kept an eye on her the whole day, she was bright pink and still looked pretty happy. I left my home for a few hours and came back and she was all white, gills curled in, bloated all the way through the belly, neck and head. she was at the bottom of the aquarium with no movement. My other axie was very healthy it seemed so I just continued checking up on him and he had a healthy appetite and was going to the bathroom regularly. Two weeks exactly after the first my other axolotl got very sick very suddenly. He did not float at all, but he did throw up his dinner from the night before. I checked him very often after he threw up so I wouldn't miss anything. He seemed a little off but I wanted to hold off on fridging him. Later I found him squirming on his side so I decided he needed to go into a hospital tub in the fridge, he seemed to be doing a little better after a few hours in there but definitely not 100% so i decided he should stay in there overnight. I woke up every half hour to check on him. He passed away in the fridge. I have no substrate in my tank, just a bare bottom, they were fed every 2-4 days depending on if they had a bowel movement or not, the water readings for PH, Ammonia and general hardness all seemed fairly normal. The ammonia seemed a little high so i used an ammonia blocker to remove the toxicity from the chemical. If any one has any idea of what could have happened I am very curious as I plan on getting two new axolotls from a different supplier in a few weeks since I have a new tank I was going to put my other guys in once it finished cycling. How can i prevent this outcome in the future?
