I thought the background was a bit too empty, so I've added a photo background to it now:

(my photos in another thread in gallery)

Is that black sand or gravel?

Hi Charlie! Thanks for the comments

The substrate is black gravel, i'll have to see how they handle it when feeding them, hope they won't swallow any. But probably I'm only gonna feed them on top of the big stone in the middle (It's flat).

Awesomne looking axies Your wild type looks chubby hehehe no offense good luck with them

Yeah the people at the petshop gave him a fat pellet every day which is why he's so fat, i'll put him on a diet ;)

What could be the age of the small white one? He's about 10 cm long.

Also, is there anything to say about the sex of these two based on the photos? I think the big one is a male, but I could be wrong.

I love the tank!

That rock thing is beautiful, great find

Thanks Hayley

I love the rock thing too, it's fake though, and ment originally as an oxygen output, so it's hollow and has a small hole on top. However, it casts a nice shadow below it for the axies to shelter under if they think the light is too bright I guess

whats the measurements on your tanks? looks huge!
And yeah, I'd keep and eye on the gravel as well, mine seem keen to rummage around and snap at things, so i'm glad I have sand!

I think it's 60x40x30, so it's not all that big.

Maybe i'm gonna put a layer of sand on top of it in the future.

Ahhhh.... similar size to mine, just a bit taller (if thats the 40 measurement.)
Are the plants real?
And I like your quote!

tank looks great Coen love the rocks and background pic too. only thing that worries me is the black gravel. one of mine i got from a pet store was on gravel and it's still pooping it out about 8 weeks later

The plants are not real, but look pretty natural. I do have some java ferns and java moss in another big tank (with piranhas). I think i'm gonna grab some of those and put them in quarantaine for a while to ensure there are no possible bacterias from the piranha tank on them.

I agree rob, after doing some research it seems that they will always get some gravel in their stomach, and I do not want that to happen. I haven't seen them swallow it though, but then again, a lot of people don't see them swallow it.

WOW great quality pics Coen. And awesome tank!
Your axies look very healthy!!
The whole setup looks fantastic.

RE sexes - id say your wild type is definately male (going on the second pic) . I cant tell the leucistic's sex though.

Again, nice tank and beautiful looking axies.

Awesome photo's... what kind of camera did you use? On what setting?
What is that mucus looking strip around the dark one's mouth? Just curious...

Love your axies!! Especially the dark fellow... He has such cute little chubby cheeks!! Both Gorgeous and a lovely tank as well... They both look very happy

Thanks everyone for the nice comments!!

Theresa, he was like that when I bought him, you should have seen the other one kept in the same tank in the petstore, fungus everywhere! I've recommended the petshop keeper to reduce the temperature in the tank and minimize the waterflow. The one I bought (Patrick) has little to no fungus (if it is indeed fungus) on his mouth left now.

Before I forget, below is another photo of Timothy, I'm getting the hang of my camera! It's a Konica Minolta Z10, at portrait & macro setting, no flash. But now I'm experimenting with setting lens distances manually, seems to work great, given there's enough light.
