Illness/Sickness: 2 sick Axolotls :( Help!

Cheers Guys,

They are both in containers in the Laundry Chilling out now. I'll cover them with a towel as well so they are not disturbed.

Carona spent over 48 hours in the fridge, and stopped floating eventually, but then after a day back in the tank started floating again.

More than welcome, maybe they just need a holiday from the day to day stress of the working week ;)

Hey Guys,

Thanks again for all your help. Both Axies look much happier and healthier. Corona has stopped floating and seems to be going very well. But Poncho is still curling his gills forwards. They've been sitting in containers in a cool place with a towel over them so it's dark, cool and quiet. And I've changed the water every day. What would he still be stressed about? Should I give him more time in the container or just pop him back in the tank and see how it goes?

Glad to hear they're on the mend! If your water perimeters are perfect I'd say gradually add some tank water to their containers so they can re-adjust to the water quality then they should be fine to go back in the tank. As for the curled gills, how curled would you say they are? If they're curled so far forward they're almost (or are) touching axies head, we have a problem. If they're just slightly curled forward, he could just have curled gills! I've driven myself mad checking water quality because of curled gills only to find nothing wrong. My boy eats well, grows at a ridiculous rate, not to mention his tankmates are perfect. Then a fellow member told me "It's not you, if there's nothing wrong he could just have curly gills!" Keep and eye on them to see if they worsen. If he seems happy, is eating well and seems pretty chilled its all good!

Hey Guys,

Just a quick update to let you know they both seem fine now. Happy, not floating, eating well and generally looking much better. His gills are curled to being just slightly forwards of vertical so maybe they are just naturally curled. Corona's gills are more swept back and 'normal' looking.

But they seem happy so I guess it's all okay for now. :)
