29 gallon setup... How many can I house?

howdy folks, how many axolotl can I house in a 29 gallon aquarium? let me know!

I'd recommend 2. They'd have lots of extra room. That's also assuming that your tank is a 29 gallon LONG (not tall).

Continuing to assume that it is a 29 gallong long, you could probably safely keep 3 in there, but that is a call you need to make based off of their sizes and temperaments.

I'd start with 2. If they get HUGE and/or are agressive, stick with two. If they remain under 10" and are chill, you could get a 3rd.

Without it being a long, a 29 gallon is as long and wide as a 20 gallon long, but taller. (I've never heard, nor can I search for and find a 29 gallon long. :O) Either way, it depends on the size of the axolotls, but two is a great number to start at.

I personally have a 30 long so that's what he may possibly have.

Oh, never mind. There are a whole bunch of different tank dimensions.

When I said "long", I meant essentially not a "tall" tank, which would have too small of a footprint.

Obviously, wide is even better

I have a 30 gallon tank and house two docile approx. 10 inch long axies. I have three different hiding caves for them, and for that reason, I am considering moving to a larger tank...they don't seem to have enough room to walk. But they seem generally unstressed (I think). I think 3 would be too many, even if they were friends.

I have 3 in my 29 gallon metroid tank. it has the same footprint as a 20 gallon long but is about 6" taller. I've never had a problem with nips or aggression, but there are enough little nooks and crannies for each one to be able to hide and not see the others. I also feed them like fat little piggies, they love their daily worms
