It's over 30 years since I saw my first Axolotl and now I've finally got them.

I now have 12 larvae between 30-40mm and at the moment they all appear healthy. The largest are now developing their back legs and what colouring they do have suggests they may be golden.

Because of the dark eyes, they won't be golden albinos, or what is referred to as 'golden'. They all appear to be wildtypes, and very cute!

Kaysie are you sure about them being wild types? They look like leucistic juveniles to me.

Hi Deb, long time since you've been on!

The top one looks like a leuc.

The smaller ones look similar to ours, but took a few weeks - just before their back legs started budding before they were distinguishable between leucistic and wildtype, they all had a yellowy tinge to them.

Lovely photos..its good to know I am not the only person that waited 30 odd years to get their first axolotl..I got my two 4 months ago and feel I have developed an addiction to amphibians, always been fond nut since browsing this site I am now getting sorely tempted to get a newt or two. I'd say the only way you'd know for sure is to wait for them to get older and see

They are now another 4 weeks older and are now in there own tank (apart from the 3 smallest). Seperated them when I found the largest one with a tail sticking out of its mouth.

They are feeding on frozen bloodworm in the pictures. They also have frozen and live daphnia, live bloodworm, frozen and live brine shrimp and have just started with chopped earthworm.

They are looking good!, no idea how I would be able to choose 3..probably have let the kids choose one each.
