In the aftermath of Hurricane Irene, and then two weeks of flooding and heavy rains, my daughter and I were out looking around on a power line cut and lifted a 2x4 foot sheet of particle board that's been there for several years, usually good for snakes, inverts, redbacks. Beneath it, on high, dry ground, we found 7 spotteds, two blue spotteds, and no less than eleven 4 toed salamanders. I probably haven't seen 11 in my life all together, so this was quite a find. Two had autotomized tails, recent (this was one day after a light rain btw), and nearbay, within a couple inches, were very fat spotted salamanders, can confirm if they were the predators responsible. Just an interesting find. Board was returned to normal, salamanders left there.
