FYI: 6ft x 2ft x 2.5ft tank setup from scratch! MiniBlog :)

Haha clever axie! I would have freaked too, and probably gone in and poked him lol!

We had our first accidental nomming today & we have a booboo on a front foot :(

He seems fine & the tank is cool so I'll be keeping a close eye on the little one.

Overall their life is good in the big house - guppies depleting daily lol & their hunting skills improving ;)

This is 3PO - he's staying :D
3 toes on front foot & forked gill on right.

This one is staying too :D love him/her always active - will swim up from the bottom to bite my wiggly finger - a real outgoing one.

you make me so excited to get one! C: especially designing the tank!
yours is so beautiful!

OK update ...

Tank is now free of frogbit completely!
I've spent hours trying to work out why the frogbit was looking so terrible o_O it's constantly upside down & I blame the guppies lol until Mr hunter I like to hang up the top showed me how much he like to grab the frogbit from under & swim around chomping until the leaves all come off then phooey spits it out only to go grab another bunch! He's eaten soooo many guppies I think I'm down to about 10% of the original million that were added to the tank! In fact I'm so worried about the depleting guppy population I'm attempting to remove the adults from the big tank to make a separate guppy breeding tank along with some bristle noses & a few Cory's that I had in a tropical tank intended for discus :) so we've had more tank swapping, tank juggling & water lugging (fish keeping is like boot camp & hard work! lol)

I'll post some tank pics tomw - by the time I'd chased & chased the guppies the lights went out

The lotls have some hikari sinking carnivore pellets at the moment because my worm farm isn't cooperating & need to restock with a mother load :D being eaten out of house & home with 17 lotl mouths! lol

They're all such fatties! Need to find them homes before they all stay!

Update: the one that has gone to a home has now got a cool tank with a chiller as they were having trouble keeping temp down - it's so nice to see a spoiled happy lotl :D

More shuffling & the guppy tank with Cory's & bristlenoses is done - failed to catch any more guppies - will hope they forget & I'll try agin in a couple of days.

The big rock from my tropical tank has been added to the big tank & looks great :)

I love how lush your big tank looks. Bright green plants, in my opinion, make an aquarium look so healthy :) I'm a bit jealous.

As for the guppies getting devoured, I originally had ten guppies in my my 40 gallon and after just 2 or 3 days I was down to 3. I found that my leucie was floating at the surface at night waiting for an unsuspecting guppy to bump into her face.

I installed a LED moonlight and added a few more guppies. Now that they see where they are going, I haven't lost a guppy since. Now the they are popping out fry and the axies are snacking on those.

I was curious if you could give a list of what floating plants you were using? I know you said frogbit, but the website aquariumplants.com suggests that they are HUGE leaves, not little ones like yours. Where did you get yours? Also, how did you make your moss rings? Thanks muchly, your tank is gorgeous!

As far as I know it's just called frogbit & each leaf is nickel sized.

I've also had great success with hornwort just left to float on surface -
Duckweed is easy to grow but I personally don't like the bits it leaves on everything.

Thanks for the compliment - it's totally a work in progress - so much more planned for it. Just waiting for Kerry's lotls to find homes then mine can move in :)

The rings are very popular & now seem to end up on the floor of the tank because when the lights go off 4 or 5 try to climb to the top of the rings to beg for extra dinner... lol it's hilarious when it collapses & there's a pile of lotls at the bottom! So now I have to find a stronger suction cup to hold up the rings

So awesome! Good looking setup.

Wow what an amazing set up, looks great! Can't wait to try my hand at making moss rings and ropes.

Thank you for sharing.

Your tanks are so awesome and inspiring, Nikki. Thank you for posting all this.

UPDATE:
Kerry brought a few of her lotls to have a sleep over for a month - the goldens have their mama staying with them in the 6'ft tank & there's a couple of big boys staying in another tank because they left spermaphore recently & I'd like to avoid eggies.

There's 14 lotls in the 6'ft now & it's still not looking crowded - I shuffled around the big rock & hides. Kerry brought all her kids hides so I came up with a way of creating a couple of hides suspended.

You're amazing Nikki. My little lotls couldn't be in a happier place, and I seriously love the hanging hides. Mama won't want to leave your place! Thank you so very very much :)

Woo hoo the suspended logs have been a hit :D

High density axolotls :)

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
