I had this product a while back, when I was planning on getting a pufferfish, but somehow ended up getting a scorpion instead... And now I'm curious about newts

I would have to say you need to cycle since these little guys absorb through their skin, the product I have is called "Specialblend" by microbe-lift, it is chemical free and says it's harmless to plants and animals, it is apparently JUST the beneficial bacteria you get from cycling, has anyone tried this? Is it good?

The link doesn't work for me.

I am skeptical of all of the "cycling in a bottle" products. Their claims defy some basic things I know about bacteria. It probably wouldn't hurt anything, but it probably wouldn't help either.

I second that, there are very few products that actually contain live benificial bacteria. I can't remember off the top of my head which ones have actually work properly for others, but for those that have worked had to be purchased and recieved within 3 days of it being bottled for it to actually work. I wouldn't trust them, the best way to quickly cycle a tank is to seed it with another tank.
