Quite rightly, it was pointed out that Axle looked a bit bloated in the picture in my first posting. As I said later on, it was the angle of the picture. So just to reassure everyone, I took this picture of him a few minutes ago and you will see that he is actually in good shape! I know his gills are sparse, but they have gradually degenerated over the years and were never very plumose to start with, along with the gills of his relatives.

Oh Lol. Now I see, sorry, I didn't see this pic. I asked in the other thread if you had any other pics. Sorry about that

He's so cute! Older Axolotls I think if I remember reading about tend to have shrunken gills. Have you had him his whole life? If you have, great job! I hope that I have all three of mine that long.

Some more pictures of Axle, especially for you Rheann. He is cute isn't he? Everyone says he has a smiley face. I got Axle from my biology teacher when he was 2-3 years old. I've had him the rest of the time although he lived with my parents while I was at university.
By the way, my husband would like me to acknowledge his excellent husbandry in caring for Axle.

awww how cute! with them small gills it makes him look as if he is a bald axie! hehe. cant beleive he is 13! doesnt lok a day over 5. hehe! :D.

I like the duck weed at the top of the tank

Is that duck weed, or a different type of plant? I'm going to put duck weed in my tank, and a few other types of plants too. I can see that he is nicely taken cared for

Thanks for taking some more pics, he's just so darling! I have a white Axolotl like yours, his name is Titus, but I'm not for sure if he is male or female yet, though I just call him Titus. look foward to hearing more about your little Axie in the future on this forum.

Do you like his little cave? I made it in my pottery class after he became too big to get in the door of his old house!

I made my cave too! I like yours
happy.gif
Could you take another pic of your cave for me when you get some time? I would like to see a side view too

. Here is my cave.

I made it using a white PVC pipe, black Aquarium Silicone and some aquarium gravel mixed in with some Agates that I found at the beach, and various other pretty polished stones.

This is about the best side view of the cave that I have. I made it by pressing pellets of clay into a half spherical plaster mould, leaving off part of one side to make the entrance.
Axle is currently in the fridge as the tank has now become too hot and he's not happy

Thanks Laura

Very clever cave, I really like it. My axies have to stay in the fridge right now until their tank is finished cycling, but since it's been 106 degrees here, I don't think I'll even put them in the tank when it is finished! I take them out of the fridge and let them warm up enough that they will except food, and leave them out during the night. In The morning, after their water change I put them back into the fridge for the hot day. The heat is just so terrible here!

Wow, 106 degrees is really really hot. I just converted it to degrees celsius. It's been 33C here today, which is around 90 degrees F. This is about as hot as it ever gets here so I can't imagine how you must be coping!

oh it is very difficult for me. I grew up in a place where sometimes it would snow in July! Not a lot, but a little, and that is one of our summer months. Crazy huh? So this weather is actually making me really sick. my throat is very sore, my nose is plugged and I have a terrible head ache constantly. We can't get our appartment to cool down past 75 degrees during the day, even if we leave the AC on for hours! As soon as we turn the AC off, the temp will rise back up to 80, and sometimes 85 in just a matter of minutes! That's in F. My cats are suffering, the axie suffer if I don't put them in the fridge, and My Gecko's I think are handling it, since they are in the cooler part of the house, which is our bedroom. I am tempted to move my Axolotl tank into the bedroom, since my Axies can't go in the tank any why, I would have to take the tank apart and move it in there, and let it cycle for another three weeks. But it also might be pointless concidering this heat wave may pass in a few weeks anyway. I guess I'll just leave it in the living room. I am going to get a cooling system for my tank. I found it online at bigalsonline.com I've done a google search on it, and I haven't really found anything bad on it, so I'm going to go ahead and start saving for it. I wasn't having any troubles keeping my tank cool earlier, but then again the temp outside was only 90 f. 106 degrees and 90 is a big difference!

Rheann - If you tear down your tank again to move it save the water and just put it back in, then you don't have to wait for it to cycle again.

I keep a new plastic garbage can in the garage for times when I have to drain a tank. Saving the water is a must.

Thanks so much Cynthia! I didn't even think about that. I just can't stand this 106 degree weather, and I hate to see my axies in the fridge constantly. Our bedroom stays really cool if we keep the door closed. I'll get started on moving it soon. I'll have to go out and buy a new garbage bin. We only have one and there is a lot of water to move lol. Thanks again!
