A stupid question, but hay, im new

at the local hardware shop get play sand or go to the local aquarium and you can get about 10-20kg bag for about &10-15. if it says pre washed, that doesnt mean it still isnt dirty you must wash it until water runs clear. If you get sand wash ans mabey boil it.

thanks!! it should be find for tonight yeh? he/she won't die or anything??:S:S im stressing now!

You could also try a local nursery / landscaping supplier. That's where I get mine from, I got river sand for about $5. You can get a 10kg bag at this price.
As Stipe has already said, just wash it thoroughly, I made the mistake of thinking washed meant washed well and then spent about 3days taking it out of the tank and washing it myself in the bath tub!! lol.

ahahaha, thats a gud stoy. almost like mine but i as i waas pouting from the bag into the tak dust rose and then i had t clean it(no water was in while i was puring it)

Oh by the way in answer to the age question...how long roughly is she/he? I was told that about 6 inches = 12 months.

One of the moderators should be able to give you a more accurate estimate.

what age question? im afraid u have me lost, hehe

.

no mine are about 6 inches and no were here 12 months she and him are about 6-9 months. Dont forget they get growth spurts.

hes so cute small!! i almost wish he would stay small but then i want him to meet frederick!! Will he be fine staying they night with the small gravel?

Well...I'm not 100% on the age thing...I don't know much about length vs age. Sorry probably not the best person to help you on that one. Stipe is right they can have growth spurts and be bigger or smaller dependant on this.

As to the gravel..If I were you I would probably take it out of the tank and put it in a food safe container with some holes poked in the lid. I'd be concerned, especially at the size it is it might mistake the gravel for a snack! Gravel can cause obstruction in an axie's stomach and make it very ill..Mine has eaten some and passed it through before I knew this, but he was a lot bigger than yours. That's when I changed to sand..much safer

If it's really hot in the ACT at the moment I would also suggest putting him in the fridge. I don't know what the temp is like there, in Syd it's been pretty hot and unless you have a cooling system (be it ice packs etc) the water could be a bit warm.

Sorry to post yet again,

I just thought I should mention that if you do decide to pop it in a container, make sure to give the axie some clean dechlorinated water each day until you have your sand in your tank.

Hope it all goes well.

Age and length aren't necessarily related. If your axolotl was damaged while it was growing, it could be older but shorter, as it spent more energy fixing the damage than growing longer. If they're still growing, they're not adults yet! Usually between 6 and 18 months, they sexually mature.
