Accident please help

Hi... Our beloved axolotl Palle had an accident while cleaning his tank He had a ½ meter fall and really messed up his tail :'(

Beside his tail he looks fine and moves fine. I put up a picture so you can see the damage on his tail.

Ive put him in some clean water in the fridge at 10C to help him recover. Is there anything else i can do to help our poor little friend? Will his tail ever be *** it was again? I know these guys can recover almost any bodypart? I really want him to be okay we love him so much.

keep him cold and in a dark and in a dark place, keep regular food habbits. keeping him cold will allow him to heal without problem. keeping him in a dark place will help him not stress out. keeping him on a regular food habbit will provide him with the vitamin and food he needs to live.

dw he will heal over time i suggest doing this untill the cut heals then put him back into his tank and his tail will grow back over time

Exactly what Michael said. Cool, dark, and fed . They are AMAZING healers. I would keep an eye out for fungus or infection while he's healing, but he should make a full recovery.

ooh yes fungus that reminds me before his cuts heal give him a salt bath to clear out any lint or dust particals that might infect him from when he fell.

mine once fell from a meter and a half when i was putting him in the tank. i felt extreamly bad, and his case was bad he had fallen head first he was bleeding like crazy when i put him in the tank he was still spitting blood but after 2 min he stoped i put the bio chemical that help with build a slim coat that will also help him heal faster. but with in two week he was fine again eating and interacting like nothing ever happen.

he should be fine dw if he doesnt eat at first mine started eating 5 days after the fall before that he didnt even wanna look at food.

i would feed him blood worms or pellets right now to avoid him from shaking his head like he would do for a earth worm or night crawler

Preemptive salt baths are not necessary to clean a wound. It is adequately cleaned with plain water.

When i looked at him this morning he stills seems fine. He got a little shock when i took off the cloth and the light hit him. He looked curiously at me and as he usually does.

He got a little fungus on the wound now tho... Should i treat it with a salt bath? or should i give him another day and see if it goes away?

Are you sure it's fungus and not dead skin falling off? On either account, try removing with a cotton bud.if it comes back, start salt baths.

I rehomed several axolotls a couple of months ago and something similar happened to my boy (previous owner dropped him in transit). From experience I know it looks awful and it's really worrying but you seem to be doing everything right and he should be fine!

when my axxie got sick, after a few days in the fridge i put him a tupperware container, about 30x20 cm and put him in a drawer, its the darkest place and he healed quickly! i fed him with tweezers whenever i could an did daily water changes. good luck
