Hi,

I am new to this board. I keep ACFs, rough skin newts and freshwater fish. I am always looking for variety in my ACF's diet. I saw some frozen sand eels in the store and wanted to know if any one has any knowledge of them and whether they are okay for ACFs?

ACF = African Clawed Frog. I have two but have never heard of frozen sand eels. I guess if it is small enough you could give it a try.

I know that sand eels (quite common here in RI) are from saltwater and they can get pretty big. I don't know if the saltwater can effect the frogs and they could be to big.

Considering he is speaking of frozen sand eels, I think he is asking if they are an okay food source. It's considerably different from their more normal food sources, which might be reason enough to exclude them from the diet. If they aren't fed too often, I don't think there would be much of a problem. With frozen fish you have to be careful of the the thiaminase that will lead to dietary thiamine deficiency. It's best not to feed frozen fish too often.

this might help you out, it's a care sheet all about ACFs. meanwhile, because I'm a fish enthusiast mainy looking to branch out, I'd like to know what fish you're keeping with it, if that's ok. thanks, fishfool
