Can I add a little goldfish with my 4 month Axolotl?

If you want it as a snack then maybe. But if you’re caring for the goldfish as an actual fish then I don’t think it’s a good idea. They could disturb your axie and depending the goldfish, they can get extremely big. A lot of people think goldfish stay a smaller size but it’s only because stunted growth in a smaller tank/bad environment. If it stayed a smaller size the axie would prob eat it and if it didn’t eat it the goldfish wouldn’t be living it’s best life. If it does get bigger than it could disturb your axie.

I wouldn't even put goldfish in as a snack; their bones might cause digestive problems for your axolotl. Additionally, goldfish require VERY different water/environmental conditions than axolotls, even in such basic terms as temperature. It would be cruel to put one in an environment designed for the other.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
