I'm sorry I don't have any advice, but I just wanted to wish you luck and say that the little guy you picked up is precious. <3

I would just be careful about your substrate - I would probably replace it with fine sand (or nothing), personally. If they suck enough of those in while eating, their insides can get impacted - and if you can't get the waste out of your system, it eventually poisons you and you die. :(

My axolotl looked similar to your when I got her. I was very nervous for a long time, but she is doing great now ! I just fed her lots of good food to fatten her up. Yours looks skinny like mine did. I fed her sinking carnivore pellets and nightcrawlers and sometimes blackworms. For a little axolotl, you will have to cut the earthworms up, mine still cannot really manage a whole one ! Also, be careful not to feed too much, emaciated animals can be "killed by kindness" - just start of easy until you see some fat/body mass start to pack on.

Mine went from

(skinny, eaten gills, one arm)

It took a few months but looking back it's so amazing the progress she made !

Just watch out for fungus - like, it looks like a little white cotton ball type of fluff. If you see that on any exposed wound (or elsewhere), you might want to check out the salt bath tutorial.

Whoops, guess I had some advice after all. :p Good luck !

I would keep your new addition quarantined in case it is infectious.
It may be just a nasty knock, but keep it in cool, clean water and watch closely. If it changes for the worse you may need to take it to the vet.

i'd love to faten the lil one up but atm it runs frm food tried feeder fish bloodworms n earth worms but no good just turns its head n backs away it's really got me miffd atm. and with our main tank sorta in the middle of pulling it all apart n scrubbing with vinegar had a canister blow out......... so on top of this question how maby bio filters would i need/use in a 6 foot by 2 foot wide by 30cm high tank

Oh n took the advice n did the salt bath but for sum reason the red soreness round simons mouth has turned really white but still more salt baths to cum im sorta wandering weather its harming the lil one more then doing good whn i can get a good pic ill post it

Are you doing the salt baths for fungus? Also, perhaps I'm a bit over-anxious, but I'd be worried about that substrate causing impaction.

He may just be off his food a bit due to stress. What are you ammonia and nitrite levels?

I have seen salamanders kept on gravel with mouths rubbed raw from rooting around in it. Like the others mentioned I would recommend taking out the gravel, it's amazing how much those little guys can suck up. If you can't get sand you can also put them in a bare bottom tank until you get sand. I have granite floor tiles in my tank, they cant eat them and it looks better than the bare glass and is easy to clean. If he stopped eating because of stress it may just take a few days for him to eat again. It also helps if you can keep him somewhere where there is not too much light. Have you tried giving him just pieces of worm? Sometimes I think you have to remind them that food is not scary and giving them little bits makes it easier to just swallow. You could also try the carnivore pellets you get at the pet store. I had to hand feed mine for awhile to get him eating. I just soaked the pellets a bit to soften them up and put them on a dulled toothpick and fed him one at a time. It can be a bit of work but eventually he was back to being his piggy self again.

BTW Chirple... Your axie looks GREAT! Awesome job :)

Ok the mouth incident is not frm the tank here i got the lil guy frm the pet shop i hve only had him a total of like 3/4 days n ddnt notice til i got him home that his snout looked like it had been filed off n soon as it started turning a white like fat lip kolor then i started salt bathing him/her n atm seeing not really any advice is cumin thru im thinking of usein some meth blue stuff

Oh n the tank he was in was just a holding tank i was in the middle of water changes n cleaning the main tank he is atm residing in a 20l storage container below the main tank

Ok i sought advice frm a lfs where another axie breeder weorks n i was put onto methylene blue and after puting simon in this diluted mix 2.5ml to 20l of water in just a day his mouth has improved greatly but still not takein food just yet atm (salt baths had to b stopped as the lil one did start bleeding)

Just curious how your axie is doing? Also, I know you aren't doing the salt baths anymore, but what type of salt were you using for the salt baths and what was your mixture? If you use too much salt, or leave them in too long it can burn them making the problem even worse.

a teaspoon of rock salt to a lunch box of water n only 10mins at a time never failed me yet and atm he/she is still sitting in blue meth n actually almost healed he/she did lose its left set of fonds tho but snapping at anything u drop in his sick tank Atm i hve him on sinking cichlid sinking pellets Massive improvement i vill post pics a lil later
