Hey,

1 question. is it good to have an air curtain or an air stone in the water or maybe even both. some people have said that the more airaters the better but then other people have said that the stiller the water the better. i'm a bit confused and would like an answer that i can stick to.

he is a really good axolotl and i want him to live in a good home and enjoy it. if you have any good answers please tell me.

i'm also free for any new ideas that i haven't yet thought of or tried. anything that works well and is effective is welcome

thanks heaps, i hope some people have some great ideas. Phippsy;)

as far as i know everyone's told me that air stones don't really do anything except look cool.
I don't think they increase oxygen in the water anyways.

As far as circulation goes, i think that's more of what you're talking about with the water being still.
They don't like a heap of current and will get stressed by it but a little circulation is good.
i personally think air stones are good because they disturb the surface of the water to prevent any film developing, etc. that's just my two cents :p I will be using my air pump accompanied with a sponge filter that's coming in the mail soon.

I can say this much, you can definitely add an air pump/air stone/air curtain in the tank if you want to
and it will be fine. My old axy actually loved swimming over to the bubbles and letting them carry him up to the surface. it was really cute :] he loved bubbles.

I think an airstone does improve gas exchange and help to ensure plenty of oxygen in the water. Whether it's necessary really depends on the setup, but for a full-depth tank with a solid lid I would recommend having one.

Still water is better for an axolotl, but a small airstone won't stir things up enough to be a concern. I wouldn't recommend an air curtain, unless it's a huge tank or the air is set to flow rather meagerly.
