Hello to all from the UK.
My name is Anne, and I have, in the last week, become a delighted owner, carer, protector and hopefully very good friend of MAVIS, my first axolotl. I am here to study, to learn, to ask whenever in doubt, and hopefully to share many stories about Mavis as our friendship together grows.
As it says in the title, I met my first axolotl 45 years ago. He was in the biology lab when I started secondary school, and I have been intrigued by them ever since. As this will clearly show, I am no spring chicken, but my little Mavis is. She is currently about 3 1/2 inches long, and is a leucistic. Her home at the moment is a 70 litre, I believe that is around 19 US gallons. I have already got a 2nd tank for when she grows up a little, which is if I remember rightly, 45 gallons.
I have run a self funded animal rescue for the past 25 years, now mainly dealing with the care, nursing, rehabilitation and release of injured and sick wild birds. I ran a rabbit rescue alongside this for many years, and I have also opened my doors to needy hedgehogs, and even snails with damaged shells  Currently in my rescue are 5 permanent resident rabbits, 49 budgies who either have, or are carriers of an incurable condition called PBFD, one cockatiels, also potentially a carrier of PBFD, 5 none releasable disabled pigeons, 4 pigeons and a wood pigeon in final stages of their rehabilitation so they can go back to their God given home in the wild. And of course, my beloved Mavis.
I know I have much to learn about Mavis. I have of course studied and researched prior to getting her, but the REAL learning begins now she is here. I am so happy to be starting this journey!

Hello Anne and Mavis! Welcome to the wonderful world of phibs, I can almost guarantee that Mavis will have company in the future.
Nice to see a fellow rescuer here, I run a salamander rescue in Kent and I'm trying to set up a network of rescuers across the UK.
Have a good read through some of the posts here, and learn how to use the 'search' facility.

Hi and thank you for the lovely welcome :) It's always so nice to come across another rescuer, there simply are not enough of us to cope with the demand of so many creatures in peril or in need.
You are of course absolutely spot on regarding me considering a friend for little Mavis :D In fact, once I've worked out the best place to post questions regarding this very topic, I shall be making plans indeed. I am not going to wait for 45 years this time :D

oh, how nice. I love seeing axolotls growing more popular every year. seeing this is amazing. I raise baby axolotls from my breeding pair which are leucistic and melanoid
