Almost axolotls

It doesn't look like an axolotol to me, but it's real cute. I'd love to have one they look cool

That is so amazing!
I love its color pigmentation and its eyes look like they are on fire!
Just beautiful, i shall make it my goal to acquire one, one day....

It doesn't look like an axie, but some baby sal. What is it? Totally amazing colours! Wow!

I think the colours are throwing you guys off - the body shape is very much like an axolotl, which makes sense since they're very closely allied species. It's a barred tiger salamander larva.

yea, the colours are nice, but i can at best be a tiger sal/axie hybrid. you can see this by the sharp snout, more stumpy appearance, and larger tail surface area.

dont worry john!

No offense Alex, but have you seen many tiger larvae?

no offence taken, and yes, i have seen a fair few (i have a friend that breeds mavortium, tigrinum and maculatum)

why do you ask?

im sure they do have larger tail surface area, generally stumpier appearance than young axolotls, and sharper snout!

Someone breeding multiple species of Ambystoma?!?!? In the UK? Indoors? Outdoors? Tell me more... I'm intrigued and slightly sceptical.

I'll say they have a flatter more elongated head, marginally, than the average axolotl but the rest I can't grant you.

As for breeding tiger salamanders, short of letting them loose in an enclosed garden with a large pond and collecting the eggs each year, I don't think so.

Alex, is there a reason you cannot disclose the method of breeding of these animals on the forum? Why the secrecy? I would be dreadfully curious to learn about these breeding events myself.

i couldnt tell you to be completely honest. they are not my animals, i personally have not bred them, though i do intend to, and i am not sure how he breeds them

all i know is that his tiger sals are kept in a 8' by 3' by 3' vivarium, with a large water area.

the reason i sent him a pm is because i was not sure as to the rules of posting another forums website url, and someones email address, and did not want to get into trouble. i sent mark the email address of the guy who is breeding them, and i did not know whether rick would be ok with me allowing the world to see his email address.
