Hi everyone!
I'm a big believer in giving animals variety in their diets, to help give balance + to avoid difficiencies (oooh, how's that spelled?!), so my 3 axies are now on a diet of earthworms, with pellets occasionally.
(I have an old plastic popcorn tub filled with compost / earth / coco brick, that I top up every so often with worms from eBay - I asked a lot of questions from the sellers before deciding on some that are safe! They are even breeding in there
)
I have a decent supply of frozen food (mainly bloodworm), but feel that the little bits are too small for my guys now, so I'm looking for more food options - something I can use as a weekly / fortnightly / monthly.
My local rep shop recommended crickets, which I tried AGES ago, but although the axies ate them (my wild type absolutely loved them!), they obviously messed up the filter. I'm not going to bother with mealworms.
On eBay, I've found waxworms + Calci worms (also called Phoenix Worms or Soldier Grubs, which are the larvae of the black soldier fly [Hermetia illucens]). Has anyone tried either of these? Or, does anyone know if they are safe for axies?
Cheers :happy:
