Just got my new babies home and put them in the quarantine tank on my desk so I can keep an eye on them :) They both look really scrawny so going to try feed them up a bit. There is a really small one, guessing he is a different age to the other, that I have decided to name Hoshi :) The larger one is a special little fella as he has 5 legs! Tried to get a good photo of them. His other front foot also has 2 toes stuck together and another stuck out at a weird angle like a spur.
The larger one has dark toes, which, if I'm correct, means it's sexually mature? The smaller one, Hoshi, doesn't and you can still see his organs, he also has a red line down his tail. Am I right with the different ages?
Hoshi seems very inquisitive, albeit a tad stressed, the other is just munching on dillies and daphnia, he hasn't yet discovered the bloodworm :) Any ways, pictures!

Oh my! An extra leg! You could call him Jake after Jake the Peg (with the extra leg) lol.

That's truly bizarre.

Congratulations, Star! Hoshi is star in Japanese, right?

Re: dark toe tips, i think they are one of the signs of maturity, but one of mine had dark toe tips WAY before he became mature, they seemed to come and go. He's definitely mature now (has left me presents in the tank to prove it) and his toe tips are barely dark at all!

Yeah I thought s/he looked quite happy :)

My mum said the same thing Re. the name but Jake wouldn't really work for a girl :( ah well, Jake it is! Yep Hoshi is Star in Japanese :D

Awh congratulations on your new axolotl. They're very cute!

Like with Mewsie mine had black toe tips for quite awhile when still young'uns. Only recently have they started to look so black it's like they've been painting their nails! So I think they are just now maturing properly.

BTW Hoshi is a good name. One of my axolotls is named Hoshi. He came to me on the thin side and after a couple of years of neglect. But now he's great! So I like to think it's a lucky name. I hope it serves you just as well!

you can never have too many legs I always say. High 15!
Any chance you could post a video? It would be interesting to see how she moves it...

What a cutie! both of em. I agree with Siona, I'd love to she if/how she moves it.

What an awesome axie :D

Next time I spot him/her moving about i'll try get a decent vid :) they just sit and stare at me at the moment :) Hoshi investigated the new hide briefly earlier but I am either proving to be extremely interesting to them or mean by not feeding them more! :p

The second I turn the camera on the little bugger stops and watches me! :(

Mine does that too, at first I thought it's cause she loves her new mummy... now I figure it's because she's waiting for food.

Maybe you need to do a David Attenborough with a camouflage painted box :p

Haha i could do! I tried them with food though but they seem pretty full as they showed no interest in the second lot I tried to give them. (trying to bulk them up cuz they really don't look healthy :( )

Wow lol! That's really interesting. I hadn't made out the fifth leg too well in the pictures but in that video it's so clear! She's really cute, like a little spider lotl!

That just looks so awesome and interesting. I was thinking about the leg swinging around when the 'real' one moves. But they both have 'their own lives' :D

I'll try get one of him/her walking, it looks a bit awkward if I'm honest lol but they got put in a 2ft tank earlier so should be zooming about once they get used to it. Don't know how to describe it, it's weird!

Yeah, I spent most of that video trying to decide if the movement of the main leg just made it look like the top 1 was "working", but it does actually flick back by itself, doesn't it?! That's weirdly cool ;)

You have one seriously awesome axie there! Its almost as if she took the saying "I need another pair of arms" at face value but only could manage half of a pair :D

I have to admit I'm envious :p
