So my axie Oliver is about 5, 5.5" and looks like a mature adult. Iv had her a couple weeks now and i got zero back ground information on her from the shop owner that sold her to me.

Iv been looking up tank temperature parameters to try and keep it stable at a livable, comfortable temperature, but every source i could find had a variying range.

From what i can understand, anything from 60 to 64 f is ideal, but temperatures up to 72 f is tolerable? Some site even said up to 24c before heat stress became a problem.

Even though its winter here in ny, iv been having a tough time keeping the tank below 70f.
Its usually around 66f during the day if the heat is low in the house, and it hovers around 70 at night. We have a mesh screen, an in tank filter with a jet wand, and weve been ice bottleing the tank at night to try and keep it down around 67f. I try to keep the heat in the house on the lower side, but its been freezing and i have a 2 year old to keep warm.

Is this sustainable? Oliver seems fine, doesnt show any visible signs of stress(shes got 2 collapsed gill tendrils on one side, but i think we bought her like that) and eats once a day, every day.

Im hoping that im not keeping her too warm, and that when warm weather rolls around, having the ac on will solve it with out having to get a chiller.

What is your general rule of thumb with tank temp?

Thanks!

Low 70's is o.k. I'd try adding a cooling fan and cooling the tank with evaporative cooling. The frozen bottle technique is o.k. but big temperature swings can cause more harm than being a little on the warm side.

Thank you, Michael. We were thinking about trying a top of tank clip on fan, but im not sure how that would work with the mesh screen; i guess we'd just lay it on top?

Do you have any recommendations about brand or size that would fit a regular 10gal tank?

Thank again.
