We're in the process of replacing freefind with a Caudata.org hosted search engine (I didn't write it though... like I'd have time for that... it's one from the web). I know how to make CC more friendly to you guys (fixed widths instead of dynamic widths) but it'll have to wait a few days to fix it.
To Jen: Don't worry, I don't think you'll have to do anything, I'll do it with the style sheets.
Hi John,
I wish I could say everything is fine but I'm still getting the same cut off intro page that Alan showed above. The search engine works fine for me, and I only get the page cut off up until the "New and Updated Files" section. At this point and on all of the other pages, everything is fine. Really it's a minor inconvenience for me as its only on this one page. This is with the IE browser by the way.
Everything else is great!
Duncan
Any chance you could post a screen shot of the whole screen as well please? One of Caudata.org itself would be nice too please. I'll try tweaking that Top Links menu to get it to behave itself.
Right I think I've fixed what you are seeing Alan in the Top Links menu but I'd like to see the rest as well please. Obviously since I don't have a Mac I can't test my assumptions.
I'm all for being Mac compatible, despite the fact that I wouldn't ever own a desktop Mac (though I've used their notebook computers quite a bit and must confess to liking them, though I wouldn't swap my Dell notebook for all the tea in China - that notebook is the reason I've been able to work on the site a lot lately).
Thanks for all you your efforts John! I still have the original overlap that Alan has shown (not what he just posted), but I'm using an older operating system (9.1) on an older Mac (ahh, someday a new machine is in the works), and so this is really my problem, not yours (and as I said, a very minor problem). Again, thanks a bunch, there aren't a lot of sites out there who are willing to cater to us Mac guys!
Duncan
Right, I've looked at this and I must confess to being somewhat mystified now. I can't explain the problem on the left hand side and the numbers simply don't add up for the width of the main column on the page. I'm tempted to just get rid of the top links menu but it's Jen's call. What do you think Jen?
Alan, can you post the same view of the Caudata.org site please?
Alan, can you now reload the Caudata.org cover page and take a snapshot for me please? I'm not 100% but I think I've solved the problem. If I have, I'll do the same with Caudate Culture.
I suspect the problem may be using fixed widths and the difference in screen resolution between Windoze (96dpi) and Macs (72 dpi) - have you looked at this?
Alan, it looks like we got our wires crossed - that's Caudata Culture and I was referring to Caudata.org. I didn't change Caudata Culture this time and I won't until I have a system that works (so I'm testing the changes on Caudata.org). So with that in mind can you post me a capture of http://www.caudata.org/index.shtml please? I am fairly certain it should look fine and your previous post boggled my mind, hence the new screen capture request.
Thanks for bearing with me . The DPI shouldn't matter - I'm relatively certain that it is to do with how I was declaring margins.
