Antibiotics for an Axie??

If someone could help, I would be so grateful. I lost my albino axie a few weeks ago, she had what seemed to be a large amount of burt blood vessels, which after doing some research I think might have been septicaemia. Her 2 tank mates seemed unaffected, but 2 days ago my wild type showed symptoms of stress and had blood clots in her gills, so I isolated her and located a vet an hour away who said he could help. To cut a long story short, he didn't know a lot, but he has given me some antibiotics to give her.he said to inject a worm and feed it, or drop it into her mouth. She is refusing food, so the earthworm trick failed, and we tried for half an hour last night and stressed her out, and unsuccessfully tried to get any antibiotics into her. I am not sure she will make it, but I can't bear to lose her so I am willing to try anything. Does anyone have any idea how I could get it into her?? I was wondering whether if I just dropped it ino the water, it would be better than nothing? Please, I would be so grateful for any help.

I would try leaving the worm in with her. Is she in a separate container from her tank mate?

Yes, I've isolated her in a cooler room. She's in a small 10l tank though, so i have just been to pet shop and bought a larger tank, but now worried i will freak her out again if i move her. I can put her hide in the larger tank though, so she might feel happier.The vet suggested I increase the temperature to 20C, but I didn't feel this was right, so I haven't. She has never refused food before, but keeps looking at the worm and freaking out. Occasionally she takes it into her mouth and spits it out.

Hi, she hasn't eaten the worm, i have tried prawns also, but she won't touch them either. so I have put the antibiotics in the water, as I thought this might be better than nothing. My question is this, should I leave her in there until I change the water in the morning, or should I treat it like a salt bath and just put her in for a few minutes?? Any ideas welcome!

Isn't septicemia the result of open wounds with blood poisoning (sorry human disease maybe)

Septicemia is a general term that means a general systemic infection.

Sam, you should just leave her in the medicated water until her next scheduled water change. Given that she is not eating the medication as she should be, using it as a bath is generally acceptable. Amphibians have permeable skin, so she'll absorb at least some of the medication through her skin.

Thank you Kaysie, that was sort of my thinking too. she seems to have perked up since I added the antibiotics, but this could just be my imagination. Fingers crossed, she is still hanging in there.

Thank you all of you for your help. Sadly I lost toothless this morning, but I don't honestly think there was anything much else I could have done to save her. Thankfully my one remaining axie has shown no symptoms yet, so I am hopeful that she will be ok. I have no idea what might have caused it, but fingers crossed I still have Rosie.
