Hi! I am very interested in keeping Eastern Red spotted salamanders and want to learn as much as possible before going ahead and getting a live animal. I am a bit familiar with aquarium set ups but have no experience with vivariums. I've been researching a lot on the internet but I would like to supplement that info with books. Any recommendations? My goal is to recreate a native upstate NY habitat complete with limestone based rock, a trickle of a waterfall, moss and ferns...what are your thoughts?
Thanks!
-Jen

Hey Jen, for information on eastern newts, a good start would be Caudata Culture which has a link at the top of the page. For books, there is an entire section of the forum devoted to book reviews. As for any setup questions you may have, there is another section of the forum devoted to plants for setups, equipment, etc. Good luck!:D

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
