My friend is cycling a tank using nt labs (I'm not familiar with this test kit)

When adding the water the water goes instantly pink then after the 5mins goes white.

Does this mean it's off the chart ?

I'm not familiar with that test I'm afraid. Does the test not tell you when to read the result?

Me either. It says read the results after 5mins so that would mean 0niteites however if it's going pink during it surely that means nitrites ? There is no nitrates so I don't believe it's cycled.

No, it says to read it after 5 mins because of how the chemistry works. So that reading is correct. In a cycled system you should never have significant ammonia or nitrite, just nitrate.

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
