So has anyone? I'm picking one up tomorrow (The one with a sensor on the end of the cord).

Yes I have one. It's excellent. Mine also registers the temperature where the controller is.

Do you think a $9.99 one would be good, I don't really want to spend $29.99 right now.

If it is the one by Corallife ESU, it has resolution to the tenth and can read in both Celsius and Farenheit. I unfortunately could find no info on its precision and accuracy, but I still have two and they work quite nicely. The suction cups don't stick all that well to the inside of the tank after awhile, but other than that they work great. I even dropped mine in the tank and it still works.

Also, I've had them for nearly two years and I haven't needed new batteries.

I have one, and to be quite honest, I never use it; the reasons being, the suction cup came off the glass quite often, would drift to the filter area, if there was a slight gradient change in temperature, even to the degree, an alarm went off. An alarm goes off if ph changes as well, so you can imagine how annoying this became. (the ph changes were not significant, and according to my water testing kits, there were no problems! It was very difficult for me to figure out how to program the darn thing as well, me my boyfriend and his old boss at the pet shop could not figure it out. Perhaps there is a website devoted to it, I just gave up caring and stuck to my submersible thermometer. It was hardly a bargain at 35.99 canadian dollar, but we did get it for free. If anybody wants it, let me know. Maybe someone will have better luck than I did!

I got the thermometer today for $9.99 (the one you mentioned Abrahm) and it works great. Looks like my tank is 63.3 F. This a day temp it usually cools off a few degrees at night I think.
