A number of lupin plants in my garden are smothered with green aphids, which I am eyeing up as food items for small newts. Do aphids incorporate any plant toxins in their bodies from their host plant, and if so, does this leave aphids feeding on lupins safe or unsafe for amphibian food items?

Thanks

Chris

Can´t remember for sure(it´s been two years since i studied this) but i think toxicity varies a lot between species. If you can find out the exact Lupinus species, you may be able to know if they pose a threat.
Anyway, aren´t the pods what´s toxic? If the alkaloids are not present in the sap, then there´s no problem.
Sorry i can´t give you a definitive answer....

Depending of the species all parts of lupine plants are light toxic to toxic, seeds VERRY toxic

I think I won' take the risk, and wait for them to attack something non-toxic
