I live in Toronto on the third floor, and my place gets warm during the summer. In the past, I did ice water bottles and it wasn’t sustainable in maintaining my 20 gal axolotl tank temperature consistently. I’m looking at buying an aquarium chiller to make sure my axolotl is comfortable this summer, does anyone have recommendations for chillers? Id like to get something good quality that won’t malfunction.

i don't have a chiller, never have, despite living in oklahoma where it gets to be 110f in summer. i use small, clip on fans over the surface of my tank and have them running at all times. i use one on the lowest setting during cooler months (including right now) and it keeps the water at 65f consistently. i can look for the brand name if needed, but i highly recommend them.

ill try to find the box, but i got it off amazon

hi! I’m just wondering, since I’m interested in buying this, does the tank evaporate quickly with fans? how were your experiences with fans? thank you!
Hi, so far I have used fans and just about managed. However the water does evaporate quickly through the egg crate lid that I have. I have just bit the bullet and purchased a chiller in the hope I can have a hood so the water doesn't evaporate so quickly.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
