Well, if I get a pair of axolotls I'm hoping to get a leucistic and a melanoid one so they contrast nicely with each other. I see plenty of leucistic babies and eggs advertised but not a lot of melanoid ones, are they less common?

I would say while they are less common than leucistics or wild types..they aren't exactly "rare".

Melanoid are hard to get hold of here, I'm in Sheffield.

They're not particularly rare as i have 4 here at the minute. (I do find them weaker than the average though. Not sure if thats just my bunch)

You could get a dark wild type. They'd be easier to get hold of and will still contrast nicely.

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
