Are Lily Pads Safe For My Newt?

Hi, I was just wondering if lily pads are safe in my newt setup.
I have a Chinese fire belly newt and he's only about 1 1/2 inches long.
I read on one sit that they are carnivorous plants.
I wanted to know because I don't want one eating my newt.
does anyone know about this?

Lily pads aren't carnivorous, but they do require quite a bit of light.
 
Not carnivorous but they have such high light requirements that they would likely just rot in your tank.
 
There are some lily pad like plants suitable for home aquaria. Try researching frogbit, pennywort and hydrocotyls.
 
What do you mean by lily pads? If you mean water lilies most are to big and all take a lot of light. They are safe aquarium plants. I wish I could have made my answer entirely in yellow.
 
;) I couldn't resist..but will happily turn it to a more tasteful orange, the yellow is hurting my eyes :cool:

Banana plants (Nymphoides peltata) are great to simulate lily pads in aquarium. Also Nymphaea zenkeri ("tiger lotus") and previously mentioned frogbits and Hydrocotyle sp. All of them require rather stronger lighting in the tank, and Nymphaea & Nymphoides like to grow in a good, nutrient-rich substrate.

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
