Hello all. My axolotl is a few months old now and he has been growing! He is on the earthworm diet now with the occasional bloodworm as a treat. His temp is always 60° since its very cold in my house and outside. No fluctuations with temperature. Other parameters are always stable. The filtration is a sponge filter. I do water changes once a week. I am wondering if his gills are too small? Sorry for the bad photo quality as always. It may be genetics or I may be worrying too much.

provided the water is cold and well oxygenated and that he isn't coming to the surface for air then his gills are doing what they need to do and there is nothing to worry about.
axolotl gills vary from axolotl to axolotl, some have long gills, some have short, some fluffy, some sporadic.
