My brother in law has land with a spring fed pond. The pond is filled with these guys. I know there are Mud puppys here (Connecticut), but according to DEP site, they are only found in one deep river which is a pretty far distance away. I looked up pictures online of juvenile mud puppys and they don't look like that. These look like Axolotls to me!

What do you guys think?

They don't look like juvenile mudpuppies to me either. However, Axolotls (Ambystoma mexicanum) are only native in Mexico so these are not axies. There are a variety of salamanders native to Connecticut so it seems like these guys are the larval stage of one of the native sallies in Connecticut. :)

Looks like some type of tiger salamander larva to me - ambystome of some kind.
