Axalotl Personalities.

The attendant at my local aquatics referred to them as 'useless lumps' and 'total wastes of space', but we all know that's not true, right? I know they don't exactly do much... But, stil...
I noticed distinct difference between my pair within hours of owning them, my female was a lot more active and the male.... dopey... They've changed a lot, the male is far more active now but as dim as a rock, the female is timid but loses her tempter easy when the male sits on her head at feeding time.... Which happens almost every time...
I was wondering, what sort of personality ranges to they have? What sort of personalities do your's have? Can they show affection towards each others as well as owners? (I noticed mine sooner stick together, they're never apart, share the same sleeping area and so on, to the point they spend most of the time sitting on each other.)
 
My leucistic moopy is a greedy little blighter, and she makes no qualm about stepping on anyone's head to get closer to the food.

Gaara, my oldest and first axolotl, a golden albino, is gentle but the big man on campus. His word goes, no one messes with Gaara.

Party Boy, my brown wild type is the most aggressive, he will lunge and my fingers to get at food, and has a face that resembles Al Capone. He's my gangster axolotl.

Mamba, my 4 inch melanoid wild type wonder, started shy but is just as aggressive at feeding time as Party Boy. He recently swallowed my whole pinkie finger trying to get food - it was quite difficult to get my finger out of his stomach!

Meecrob, my morphed Axolot, and my most recent amphibian is depressed after being forced to morph. Luckily, when it comes to feeding time he perks up, and destroys a few crickets with vigor. He's quite regal when he's being fed - likes to hold his head high and wont worry about telling you where to go when he's had enough.

They all live cohesively until dinner time. Then it's every amphibian for his or herself.
 
Spyyk is generally a laid back lady with odd habits, the most noticable being her poop-stomping habit.

She's cheeky, and will often bound out of her window to see me in an evening.

I think they've wonderful personalities.
Ziggy was so easy going he wasn't going most of the time, but he wasn't a fan of hand feeding.
Spyyk loves to be hand fed, especially worms.

If she's in a good mood, she likes to chew my fingers.
At the moment she's not feeling too hot, something's irritated one of her gillstalks, so she's sleeping a lot at the moment.
Spyyk feels better today, she was waiting for her dinner.
 
Ive noticed that too. My two are totally different. Snip is easily spooked, but very active and always more than happy to see me, and likes to sit close to lini.
Lini, however, is very moody. Sometimes she will be more than happy to see me, and come nudge my hand and sit on my fingers when i try and feed her. Sometimes shes more interested in play than food. However, at other times she wont have a bar of me, and when i walk over shell turn and sit with her back to me. Funny little uns arent they
 
Hmm, yep..I've got three distinct little ones here.

Snaxolotl (wild type) spends most of his time hiding. He is quite shy. He'll come out at meal times as long as I'm offering up something other than worms. He shys away from hand feeding and loves his food bowl. He likes to share space with Juju but not with Ruti.

Jejunum (leucistic) is a fiesty and fat little thing. She is the first over at feeding time. She likes "hunting" the shrimp and snails, and uprooting the plants. She also "boings" around the tank most mornings.

Rutabaga (golden) is the most friendly. She spends the day at the front of the tank watching all my students. She also really likes to float, and if you leave her alone will travel up and down the water column for hours. She'll climb up on your hand at feeding time, but doesn't want to take food from you unless it is a big juicy worm.
 
Sad, but true, some people just don't appreciate the axolotl. They just don't know how special they really are.
 
I think its because they need time to be watched and such and plenty of nurture, shop assistants are only with them at feeding time when they throw a few worms in their direction.

In my family, special means a bit of an idiot - and I think that suits Spyyk to the ground!
 
im allways amazed at how much you guys spend with your hands in the tank. Would think you had a dog or something.
 
They are little, vicious, water bound dogs....

I didn't mean special like idiot (although, their brains are rather tiny), I meant that they don't appreciate how the axolotl is a very interesting creature and they have incredible abilities and personality.
 
I was just replying to Amber's comment about her axolotl. I kinda agree with what you say.
 
Matthew- loved your descriptions of all your "kids"- do you have a photo of the morphed axie- how did it come about?
 
My 3 axies all have very different personalities.

Axelina is very smart, but also very moody, my little princess. She socialises a lot with me, and other people she knows well. I understand some of her facial expressions. She has a 'question face', an 'angry face',and 'feed me' face. She is also very moody and sulks often. She often watches tv. She especially likes music/dancing programmes,hih.

My 2 new ones Blackie and Orangina I have only had a few months, so don't know their personality in that much detail.

But Blackie is very active and energetic, but not very smart. She also doesn't take that much contact with humans.

Orangina is a very gentle axie. She/he comes to say hello, and is curious about her surroundings, but doesn't swim that much. I think she/he will be quite social, given time
 
Watches TV? That's cute, do you think she's attracted to the bright colours and shapes?

Little update, my axolotl's have betrayed me, they much prefer my dad now, I think its because he's a big shape than my boyfriend or I am (not that my boyfriend has anything to do with the axies, he puts up and ignores them).
 
Only had Crunchie a few days and he/she is settling in well. Not sure of personality atm. Bit shy still, but this morning is the most active I've seen him/her. Bouncing around and climbing on the pot with the java moss on it. As of yet havent tried to hand feed while settling in, but might give it a go soon. Axies are so cute, my partner thinks Crunchie is ugly, but I adore him/her, it looks like he/she is smiling all the time
