my axie jumped out i found him on the floor with fuzz cleaned just picked off and put he in a tank by himself in a quiet room darker. by morning he seemed to be moving only staying on the bottom. today he was still at the bottom but really not moving. just before i left for work i put him in the fridge did i really blow it?

Fran, this can happen if you don't have a secure lid. Just keep him cool and quiet. If he wasn't out too long, he should make a recovery.

To prevent this, I would get a screen lid for your tank.

thank you im not sure how long so the refrig seems like a good idea. how will i know if he perks up and i have already gone out for a screen thanks again

I wouldn't put him in the fridge, as you won't see him return to his 'normal' state. The fridge puts them into slow-motion. About how long do you think it was out?

hi i think it may have been an hour but he had managed to get across the room. i just wonder if it may have been longer. he didnt have any injuries except my hair rapped around and around. update this is wed. and he is still in the fridge. he really seems unchanged he doesnt even look toward food. about all he does is feather his gills. can they go into shock. tonight ill take him out and see if hes ready to be in a tank by himself.

slow motion is the way to describe the fridge experience

He won't eat while he's in the fridge. I'd say he can probably come out of the fridge now. Put it on the counter until it warms up to tank temperature, and then offer food.

Hi, I'm not a usual poster but I’ve noticed your predicament. I am an axolotl owner and have experience working with numerous animals (including amphibians) at my job at the National Zoo. I hope I can help you with your problem.

I'm surprised that you put him in the fridge since he just fell out of the tank. Usually a change in water temperature often adds to the stress. I'd say it would have probably been best if you just returned the little guy back to the tank the moment you noticed him out, seeing how there were no injuries or infections. Give him some alone time and privacy and you'll probably find he'll be back to his old listless self in no time.

P.S- If this post has copied over sorry about that.

Weird i didn't know axies could jump :S
I dont think mines ever tried. Its lid's always open to keep he water cooler etc etc. Then again the water level is very low down.

How high can they jump?

At night my 2 axies are always bouncing of their tank walls at breakneck speed. I suppose sometimes they over do it lol.

My axie jumped out of the tank the second day I got her. I quickly put her back in but I wasn't sure how long she was out either. She had blood coming out of her gills and everything but she survived. She has even laid eggs since. I guess it takes time and if there isn't any signs of infection then I don't think you need to do anything. As long as he is eating and left alone, he should get better.

Good luck!

thanks everyone. he seemed better when i [thawed] him out and i did isolate him but he just sits on the bottom. im beginning to wonder if he was out longer. i put a couple black worms in there. he never had missed a meal but he didnt eat these. i guess im most worried since hes not squirming around

Fran, adult axolotls don't really do anything other than sit there. Keep offering food. Axolotls can go weeks without eating.
