Axie killed?

hello, I have really sad news, today I came home and found my brown axie on his back almost floating on top...I think my white axolotl attacked him...
I got him out and I saw that one foot/leg has totally been bitten of, you can see the 'bone' thats all what is left of it, his gills are also bitten off, theres a part of his tail missing, and you can see clearly that he tried to bite the other legs too...
Did he die of this or did my white one attack it when he was dead already?
My white one looks just fine and the black one was fine yesterday too...
What could have caused this? They were living fine together...

I find it hard to believe that an axy would suddenly launch an attack. I don't suppose you have cats do you? A little nibbling and injury is certainly possible by an axy but not an outright murder.
I think the injuries you describe could have been made over time, say a week or so and just accumulated to stress the axy out so much, it couldn't cope.
