Hi guys

my 7 year old male axie seems to have lost his sense of taste/smell, he will only eat live and moving food now!
he did get sick about a year ago and got very fungusy, sorted him out with salt baths and fridging and he has his gills and body weight back, but i just wondered if this is common after an axolotl has been quite seriously ill?

Do you hand-feed? Sounds like a lazy or spoiled axolotl.

Its more likely that it is just expressing a preference for live food, I assume you're trying to feed it pellets, if you can just feed it what it wants (if its earth worms) dont worry about it. If you need to feed it pellets just offer them it will eat them eventually.

i never used to hand feed it, but when it was sick i hand fed it worms so i knew it took them, it did love frozen bloodworm but it just ignores it now, luckily we have a big garden that never has pesticides or herbicides anywhere near it so it gets plenty of earthworms.

oh my god, i have a spoiled lazy axolotl :D
