Hello! I was just wondering if I could catch minnows from a small lake near my house and feed them to my axis?

With any wild-caught food you'll need to consider infections or parasites. You'll at least need to quarantine them before you feed them to your axies - are you prepared to have a small quarantine tank?

I don't see why not as long as the lake is not contaminated and minnow will be small enough.

@Mari, I can ensure the lake is not contaminated. Thanks for replying! :)

Hi Hanna, there is no way to be sure the lake is not contaminated, they all have parasites, fungus and disease, that is a part of nature. I am a noob also, but listen to the experts, it'll save you time, money and heartache:happy:

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
