Axies and their reflections?

So I moved my babies into little one gallon tanks while I cleaned out/changed the water in their big tank. They were both laying up against the sides so I decided it was a good chance to measure them and see how much they've grown. I got out a metal ruler and held it up next to Jason....and he immediately started chasing it. It was then that I realized the ruler was very reflective and he could see himself in it.

I tried it again today with a handheld mirror and he swam right up to it and chased after it when I moved it. It doesn't seem like an aggressive thing like you'd get with a betta fish, he just seems very interested in this pretty new axie that likes to swim outside his tank.

Has anyone else noticed this with their axies? It's a rather cute new behavior.

My axxie plays with his reflection in his tank all the time, it is pretty much adorable

I'm not sure about reflections inside their tanks. Because under water there might be no reflection when they're standing in front of the glass, but not sure if there is a reflection on the windows on the side then...
But I'll try this out and see what happens!

Good point, from what I see there is a mirrored effect on the glass inside the tank and he jousts with his otherworldly friend all day

I placed a mirror in front of the tank. Xotl walked towards it... Stared for a while and swam back to his cave quickly. :lol:
(He is a little ugly with his lip zit and frill-less gill and now he finally saw what he looks like)

I'm pretty sure mine chases his reflection. He was spending all of his time trying to get to himself. Unless he thought there was more tank there because it was reflecting all the ornaments and plants too. Now he doesn't do it anymore because I put a blue background on.
