Hey, I've only had axies for a few weeks, and they seems to be settling in fine although at feeding time they get VERY excited - although I feed them everyday - and end up snapping at each other by mistake. Now Monty has biten off the ends of one side of Howard's gills and I don't know what to do! At the minute Howard is on his own in the fridge to heal and destress but I wanna get him back in the tank asap. Any ideas on how to keep them from biting each other? They're both the same size - 9cm - their tank's pretty large, and they've always lived together. Please help!

p.s. Monty always 'dances' whenever he see's I've come into the room :D (i told ya they love their food!)

can you feed them at different ends of the tank. some people use baskets or breeding type nets to put them in while being feed, others like to put them in another container outside of their tank to reduce mess from leftover food. my male bit the gills of my female when the first met but they are fine now, i just lead my female to another spot since shes the snappyest of the two

We push them apart with the turkey baster if they crowd in together and feed them in different areas so they don't snap at each other.

I have trained the two that share a tank to go to different ends of the tank when I feed them.

I started by tapping on the tank each time I fed them and with the help of my oldest son we lured each one to a different end of the tank and fed them. It took about 8 days for them both to routinely go to opposite ends of the tank when we tap on it.

Now its hardcase to watch them bolt to their feeding areas.

Goodluck
