I rescued these poor axolotl a from a unhealthy tank. I tubbed them for 2 weeks while i cycled their tank and have had them in their new tank for almost a week. They have made HUGE progress and I’m so happy to see their gills growing back and seeing them put on more weight! These are the first axies I have owned and I absolutely adore them!

They look great! Wondering how you did it?

Thanks everyone🥰. I’m super happy with these little cuties! I love seeing them cruise around in their tank

I put them in a small quarantine tub while I cycled their tank. I fed them as many earthworms as they would eat every day and changes their water 1-2 times a day depending on how much of a mess they made. I basically just took care of them and made sure they had clean water. I think their gills were so ugly because they were ammonia burned from the last owner not changing the water enough

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
