About six months ago I bought two axolotls at a local fish store. They where very nice and helped me find everything I needed. About 1.5 months later one of my axies passed away for an unknown reason. My second axolotl Jupiter who has now grown to about 6 inches long now lives alone in my 30 gallon aquarium. I give him weekly water changes and a variety of frozen food as well as pellets.
When my axolotl Herb passed away Jupiter did seem confused, I know some people think axolotls don't suffer from separation but I do believe Jupi did.
He seems to be happy now but I do think he would benefit from a tank mate and it would be fun to get him a buddy. Question is where and how.
My local fish store sells small axies for $60 each, normally 3-4 inches. I know I need to get him (assuming he is a boy, he may be to young to tell) a buddy of the same size. I could possibly get the store to hold a lotl for me, I'm going to talk to the store in a week, if so that would solve the size problem but if not does anyone know a website that ships to the us?
I don't want any baby lotls so I would like the same sex of possible but it's to hard to tell when they are this young. Does anyone know any ways for me to avoid breeding?
Also I don't think this should be a problem but is there some way I should introduce them or interact to avoid fights? Jupiter was very close with Herb and they never fought and always slept together but a new axies could cause squabbling.
Jupi and his tank. I don't have many hides because when I had more before he only used the two currently in the tank. I could definitely get more for a new axie of needed.
