Hey all,

My axolotl only eats when the food is sinking within an inch of his face. He seems to respond to the stimuli and that's the only way I can get him to eat, by dropping food directly over him. It gets kind of tedious when I have other caudates to care for.

Does anyone have any suggestions for feeding methods? Preferably I'd just like for him to scavange food from the bottom instead of meticulously feeding him one pellet/worm/shrimp at a time.

Thanks!

You can try some live food as bloodworms or living daphnia. some weeks ago, even if my axolotls didn't eat any food if not in front of them i left in the bottom of the tanks some bloodworms and when a few hours later i checked the tank i surprisingly noticed there were no bloodworms left. Sometimes axolotls get stressed and in those periods is more difficult feed them.
Anyway i highly suggest you to try leaving some dead food in the tank and give some time your axolotl to find it. (sometimes leaving the food in the same spot helps the axolotl to find it quicker).
If this doesn't work you have no choices other than feed them directly or give them living food :D
