hi

I have just got an axolotl. its about 2inches long i'm just wondering how mant times aday i should feed it . it takes blood worm ok.

I feed mine Mon, Wed and friday, usually every other day. Keep in mind that it is better to underfeed than overfeed. It's good to be lean.

every other day is a good rule of thumb i think.

At 2 inches I wouldn't go any more than 1 cube each other day though, you don't want him getting too chubby.

As he gets bigger I'd recommend earthworms, both small whole and cut up. It really is better nutritionally and they different it makes to their energy is dramatic.

I think of bloodworms as basically axie protein shakes, sure they will give him some energy and bulk him up, but a diet of them alone can leave em lethargic and in some instances constipated.

At two inches I would feed every day, you will figure out after a while how much he will eat, different axies eat different amounts, as you look down at him his body and head should be the same width, if he is slimmer feed him more if he is fatter feed him less

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
