Hello

I noticed yesterday that my ppor axolotl had fungus in its gills. So i quickly got him out of my tank and put her in the fridge. Today when i changed the water in the container, the fungus had, first of all gotten worse but also turn greenish. I've never seen this before. Do any of you guys have any experince with this type of fungus?

Im planning on proceeding with salt baths as is genereally suggested. Furthermore, my water readings are fine i.e. no ammonia or nirate.

Best regards!

Do you hold your axo's on a bare bottom?
Do you feed them pieces of meat or often worms? This kind of food can form a loose flaky feces. This floats around and is by no means retained or filtered away immediately.
It is possible that pieces of feces enters the gills. And do not go out of it anymore. Then it's going to rot. If you see this you can try pulling it with tweezers. It seems wise to remove the infected part.
I do not know much, so ask others for advice.

Hey there

Thanks for the reply. My tank sand sand as the bottom layer, but it is true that when i looked this morning there was feces in the container. Im really hessitant to use tweezers, but ofcause i will try it if nothing else works.

Gentle healers make smelly wounds. Good luck.

Hey RG

Just want to check back in to tell you, that my axie is doing allright again. I took your advise and removed the infected fungi, and then continued with salt baths. Today she returned to the tank and is eating and doing fine. Thanks a lot for your advice.
