Hi, my axolotl developed fungus during some extreme heat recently and he is currently living in the fridge having salt baths which are improving the fungus condition immensely. My question is this, he has been in the fridge for just on a week and while the fungus is getting better it is by no means gone, but he is also refusing food which he did for almost 2 weeks before he developed the fungus and I fridged him. Last night when I bathed him and changed the water he seemed more lethargic than he has been all eeeek and I am concerned he is starving to death. I understand lethargy is not unusual during grudging nor refusal to eat, but since he has not eaten in almost 3 weeks I am concerned. He is visibly thinner than he was, but he was a little greedy when healthy so may have had a little extra to fall back on. Since he still has some fungus in his gill area(most of the rest has gone now, just the cotton wool type stuff near the gills left), should I let him warm up a little to room temperature for a couple of days and try to get him to eat, or should I leave him where he is till the fungus is completely gone?

axolotls can go weeks without food, how thin is your axie? The cold will reduce the appetite immensely aswell

He isn't anorexic looking, but he doesn't have a tummy bulge any more either. It is more the lethargy that worried me last night, when transferring him to the salt bath he went upside down and it was a huge difficulty for him to turn over, in fact after a few seconds I used the corner of the net to give him a little nudge. I have seen thinner axolotl for sure...

you don't have to fridge in conjunction with salt baths, on another note the cold slows their metabolism so any weight loss most likely isn't as a result of fridging. I would recommend slowly bringing him back up to room temperature, then leave him in the dark, attempt to feed a little later on. Continue with salt baths. As long as the temp stays below 19 degrees, he should heal fine

The reason for the continued fridging is because we have had quite a heat wave here...

Could you add a picture of him so we can see him please?

Also can we have on of his tank?

I think I have uploaded some photos here, one showing the fungus just peeking out and the other two just general pics showing size
