Hello!

My axolotl Leviathan has had stubby toes the entire time I've known him.

He lived with another axolotl, and the previous owners said he was very aggressive.

He has one toe on one of his back legs that looks long and normal, but every single other toe is hardly there.

His toes have white tips. I've read and seen that wild types like him have white tips on their toes, but since his are so short, I wonder if the white could be his bones/ cartilage or fungus? I'll try to get a better picture up as soon as I can, but for now I have this

See? Little toes!

Teehee! My axie has little toes on one of his feet, when I got him it was regenerating after being bitten so I'm guessing it just hasn't grown back yet.

I've had axies that just always had small toes though, I think it's genetic although maybe that means all their feet have been bitten off at one point or other? I got mine at 15cm so there was plenty of time beforehand to regrow a couple of limbs. If it's not bothering him I wouldn't worry about it too much, it's just a quirk of his ;)

Aww little toes! Perhaps he lost his legs at one point and they haven't grown back correctly.

That gravel substrate could cause some damage. They tend to suck some gravel up when they are eating and it can cause impaction. Sand is more suitable as it can pass through their digestive system easier.

I actually just replaced those rocks with sand for that exact reason.

Getting the water to become clear is quite the pain though...

Thanks for easing my mind about the toes! I'll just keep an eye on him. He seems quite happy and healthy!
